Palma Boat Show 2015.              30th April - 4th May

Feedback from participants in Palma 2015 has been very favourable. Record numbers of visitors reported (some 40,000 estimated), some 180 boats on show and 207 exhibitors represented. Some exhibitor comments below:-

Arne Ploch of Camper and Nicholson, has played a leading role in the establishment of the Palma Superyacht Show which was established three years ago in Port Adriano and for the last two years has taken place alongside Palma Boat Show. Arne and his fellow organisers are widely praised for having rescued the ailing Palma Boat Show and having restored it to a Mallorca Lighthouse nautical event. Arne is well pleased with Palma 2015 / Palma superyacht Show 2015 - with no adverse reports. Now that the dual event is well established and more widely publised Arne has seen a move from a largely local visitor base to a much wider range of visitors with many prospective clients coming from across the world. With 67 superyachts on display prospective clients were able to view a range of broker or charter boats with similar specs - all in the same location. Arne was very happy with the coexistence of large boats and smaller vessels and services in the same venue. Palma is much more informal and friendly than the more serious Monte Carlo with an excellent ambience - also helped by the now open Moll Vell development with it's excellent range of eateries and nearby historic and gastronomic attractions. For 2016 Arne sees the refinement of the current successful formula based on the stability of the last two years and wider publicity for this spring event - with boats in the water and under sunny blue skies !!

Edward Oppenheimer of Port Adriano based Frauscher. Frauscher had two prestige motor yachts on display. Edward was well pleased with the volume of visitors particularly over the first two days with a mixture of visits from known clients and potential customers.

Matthias Ebert of Bavaria Spain was also well pleased with Palma 2015. Bavaria had a Bavaria Sport 44 HT Highline motor yacht and a Cruiser 46 sailing yacht on display with many more new and pre-owned yachts to view nereby at Club de Mar. Bavaria Spain, official distributor for Bavaria Yachts in Spain, presented its new information and service system called Bavaria+ consisting of four elements, BAVIS (Bavaria Information System), SHOP, CHECK and ACADEMY. The system - which proved popular with visitors - was demonstrated during the show on board of the prize winning Bavaria Cruiser 46, “European Yacht of the Year 2015” in category family cruiser. Every new Bavaria will be equipped with a boat specific QR-Code that can be scanned with a smartphone or tablet computer to allow for easy access to all the information (BAVIS) an owner or charter client might need. Short videos explain the control panel or the handling of the electric windlass. The check book (CHECK) for the new yacht is included in the package and also available online. And if the client is looking for additional equipment or a spare part, he can directly enter the SHOP to find, order and receive the desired items without complications. The fourth component (ACADEMY) will be coming soon and includes trainings for Bavaria dealers and other professionals as well as sea trials or skipper trainings for customers.   More Info.

Linda Zibala of Princess in Port Adriano reported that Princess
Motor Yachts were very well pleased with Palma 2015. Six boats were on display with the sale of two boats being finalised during the show. Visitor numbers were good with many serious potential clients from throughout Europe and in particular from the UK and Germany - no doubt assisted by simultaneous public holidays in Spain, UK and Germany. The extended Boat Show area and Moll Vell restaurant developments added to the improved ambience. The link up by Princess with Proa Premium Mallorca involving the display of the latest BMW models and cocktails by Purobeach proved popular with visitors as did the Princess Sunday "Late Night Event"  More Info  Princess report a busy few weeks ahead - Barcelona next week and then "Best of Yachting at Port Adriano" later in the month.

Nicolas Sierra of Alcudia based SEALINE had three models on display which attracted considerable interest and promising leads. Nicolas also welcomed the extended area and improved Moll Vell facilities.

Palma Boat Show 2016 will take place at Moll Vell Palma between Thursday 28th April and Monday 2nd May 2016.

Record number visit boat show

By Humphrey Carter,  Majorca Daily Bulletin.      5th May 2015

This year’s Palma International Boat Show, which drew to a close last night, lived up to its billing as the biggest and best since it began. While the total number of visitors has yet to be collated, organisers said yesterday that this year’s International Boat Show Palma expects to beat it’s own record of visitors. More than 20.000 people visited the nautical fair during the first three days since the event opened on Thursday and over the weekend, the show was heaving. It should be recalled that last year, the Boat Show attracted 36.000 visitors over the five days. Palma is well known for its fantastic weather, its excellent infrastructure, welcoming residents and vibrant nightlife. These may be some of the reasons for choosing this event, as well as the increasing number of cultural activities in the city (Maremostra, Tapamar, Palma Vela y Beer Palma). One of the most outstanding aspects of this edition, besides the intense business activity, has been the good atmosphere between the exhibitors. All of them agree of the high level of professionalism at the Boat Show. The International Boat Show Palma closed its doors on Friday night celebrating the “Noche del Mar” party. A “magical and very special moment,” said the director of the Boat Show, Chema Sans, “where exhibitors had the opportunity to mix “business and pleasure”. Entrepreneurs, clients and friends enjoyed the night in the unique setting of Palma’s bay.

PRESS RELEASE : Cabinete Prensa BoatShow Palma 2015 : 4th May 2015.

The International Boat Show Palma closes the best edition in its history.
Boat Show Palma has beaten all its records: more than 40.000 visitors have visited the Fair. 75% of this year’s exhibitors have already requested a stand for next year

Monday, May 4th 2015.- The International Boat Show Palma, organized by the Balearic Government, has closed his XXXII edition number 32 with a record of visitors: more than 40.000 people have attended the Fair.

Friday was the strongest day: more than 11.000 people visited the Boat Show Palma and the Palma SuperYacht Boatshow.

The conseller of Economy and Competiteveness, Joquin Garcia, highlights that this event has become a national and international reference. “Three years ago we decided to cancel it because of it’s public costs and bad results, but now – after listening to the requests of the nautical sector- we are proud to announce that Palma BoatShow is an obligatory appointment in the calendar”.

207 exhibitors, 180 boats -70 of them, megayachts- and 3,000 brands have been present in this edition. Because of this, this event is the largest exhibition of sailing yachts worldwide.

An event adapted to the needs of the nautical industry

The director of the Palma BoatShow, Chema Sans, says that these numbers demonstrate "the compatibility between the model of the fair and the needs of the commercial sector ".

In fact, the Economy and Competitiveness Department of the Balearic Islands is already working on next year’s edition because the 75% of the current exhibitors have already requested a stand for the next one, which will be held from April, 28th and May, 2nd and will be officially presented in Monaco and Cannes on September.

The aim for 2016, as the conseller has said, is to improve the infrastructures of Port of Palma -such as drafts, moorings and parkings- and attract more customers.

Commercial activity

Most of the exhibitors describe this edition as “the best one so far” and highlights the visit of much more “potential buyers”.

Furthermore, Jane Thomson -one of the Superyach Show organisers- highlights the "higher quality" of visitors.

Tapamar

As in previous editions, the Palma Boat Show has coincide with Tapamar, a seafood and fish fair organized in collaboration with the Asociación de Restauración de Mallorca.

On this edition, however, it has not been held inside the enclosure but in each of the restaurants which participate. “A good way of showing the whole city to visitors”, says Joaquin Garcia, conseller of Economy and Competitiveness.

Marcial Sánchez Barcáiztegui Award

Last but not least, the International Boat Show Palma has awarded the ‘Mestres d’Aixa’ (of the Consell de Mallorca) with the Marcial Sánchez Barcáiztegui.

This Prize recognizes the institution for his work in the promotion of tradition as well as the preservation of our maritime legacy, along it’s fifteen years of existence.

Joan Manuel Pons, director of ‘Mestres d’Aixa’ has received the award.

British Ambassador attends Boat Show
By Humphrey Carter,  Majorca Daily Bulletin.      1st May 2015

The British Ambassador to Spain, Simon Manley and the Consul General, Andrew Gwatkin, yesterday visited the Palma Boat Show to support the scores of British companies exhibiting at this year’s event. This year’s boat show, which was opened yesterday morning by the President of the Balearics, Jose Ramon Bauza, is one of the largest in recent years and some 60 percent of the companies on show are British with many based either in Majorca or the Balearics at large. Manley and Gwatkin, were given a tour of the show by the Managing Editor of the Majorca Daily Bulletin, Jason Moore, and were extremely impressed with what they saw. One of the highlights of the tour was a visit to Mood Beach and Baxter Marine Pearl Yachts stands where the owner of both businesses, Margaret Whittacker OBE and the Managing Director of Pearl Yachts, which are British built, designed and owned, Iain Smallridge, were on hand to greet Manley and Gwatkin and give them a personal tour of one of the award winning Pearl yachts. Pearl Yachts have two luxury vessels on show this week, a Pearl 65 and a Pearl 75 and this evening at the stand on quay 2 is a cocktail party which is open to all starting at 7.30pm.

PRESS RELEASE : Cabinete Prensa BoatShow Palma 2015 : 30th April 2015.

President Bauzá inaugurates the XXXII International Boat Show Palma & Palma SuperYacht Show.

The Delegate of the Spanish Government, Teresa Palmer, the president of the Balearic Parliament, Margalida Duran, the President of the Consell de Mallorca, Maria Salom, and the consellers of Economy and Competitiveness and Tourism and Sports, Joaquin Garcia and Jaime Martinez respectively, have attended the event

Thursday, April 30th.- The president of the Balearic Government, Jose Ramón Bauzá, accompanied by the main authorities of the islands have inaugurated the XXXII edition of the International Boat Show Palma and the III Edition of the Palma SuperYacht Show. During his speech, president Bauzá has described the International BoatShow Palma as “a nautical reference worldwide after years of hard work”. “This project”, he added, " has changed with the times and what is more important: with the needs of this industry. The collaboration between the Public and private sector has been absolutely important”.

Another outstanding point, as he has remarked, is that the fair is self-financed. The budget for the Boat Show this year amounted up to 450,000 euros that are provided by the private sector and by visitors (5 euros per ticket except for children and pensioners, which is free).

Furthermore, the number of visitors this year is expected to exceed last year's (36,000 people) and reach the 40,000 visitors in those five days. This increase is, in part, possible because of the extension of the day to Monday, instead of closing on Sunday.

Exhibitors and boats

The President of the Government recalled during his speech that the XXXII edition of the International Boat Show Palma has 200 exhibitors representing 3,000 brands and 180 boats, of which 70 are superyachts (60% of them are sailboats.) Because of this, the International Boat ShowPalma is considered the largest exhibition of sailing yachts worldwide.

On the other hand, the 75% of the exhibitors are repeating this year, “which means that they trust on this event”, has stressed Bauzá. The marine industry, the president said, "is absolutely important” because it generates 340 million euros a year and employs around 2,500 people. It should also be emphasized that the Balearic Islands are leader in the recreational craft sector, followed by Barcelona and Cadiz.

Modernity and Tradition

The XXXII Internacional Boat Show Palma combines both modernity and tradition.
A good example of this is the variety of boats shown: from the most modern yachts to the traditional boats. Also in this edition, the Barcáiztegui Marcial Sanchez Awards, will be given to the Escola de Mestres d'Aixa del Consell de Mallorca, which represents a perfect example of tradition in these islands.

Full steam ahead for Palma Boat Show.

By Humphrey Carter,  Majorca Daily Bulletin.      4th April 2015

The countdown is on to the start of the Palma Boat Show, one of the most important in the Mediterranean.

Palma.—The 32nd Palma Boat Show will open its doors to the general public on 30 April and this year over 200 exhibitors are going to be taking part, nearly 75 percent more than in 2012, making it one of the largest nautical events in the Mediterranean. For the third consecutive year, the event will include the Palma Superyacht Show which will feature 70 yachts of up to 65 metres in length. The organisers said yesterday that this year, they expect more than the 32,000 people who visited the show last year. This year, the show will cover an area of 4,500 square metres and will be using 120 moorings in front of La Llonja. 70 percent of the businesses exhibiting at the show are foreign, although nearly all of them have offices or outlets here in the Balearics which has one of the largest nautical  industries in Europe and Palma boasts some of the best shipyards for refits and repairs in the world.

Palma International Boat Show hangs the sold out sign

The 32nd edition of the Boat Show Palma & Palma Superyacht Show organized by the Innovation Management Institute and -integrated in the Balearic Government- will be held between April 30th and May 4th

The high demand of participation has pleasantly forced the Organization to enlarge the exhibition space, both on land and sea

The Palma Superyacht Show has increased the number of yachts on display: more than 70 boats of up to 65 meters. Therefore, this years event is considered the best exhibition of super sailing yachts worldwide

Saturday April 4, 2015 - The next edition of the Palma International Boat Show, to be held between April 30th and May 4th, surpasses last year’s numbers and fulfills the Organization’s expectations.

For this reason, Innovation Management Institute (integrated in the Balearic Government) has closed the contracting process and there is an outstanding waiting list for participation.

So, consequently, the exhibition space (both on land and moorings) has been increased. This year’s exposition will take place between April 30th and May 4th at the old dock (Moll Vell) of the Port of Palma (Lonja P1-P2-P3; Royal Flush spring; Old pier; Moorings Marina and Sports Luggage spring) from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. (except on May 2, closing at 11 p.m.)

“Palma Superyacht Show” bets on Luxury Yachts

For the third consecutive year, coinciding with the International Boat Show Palma, Palma hosts the third edition of the Palma SuperYacht Show, the trade show for Luxury Yachts that year after year, attracts more assistants.

This year’ numbers of boats has increased: over 70 vessels of up to 65 meters will be on show. Last but not least, not only there is an increase on the amount of luxury yachts, (both sail and motor boats), but also the variety. The organizers have announced the presence of large vessels such as the “Mondanga 2” and the “Eleonora”, both exceeding 49 meters in length.

Palma Superyacht Show is focused on the marine industry and dedicated to luxury brokers.

In the words of the Minister of economy for the Balearic islands Government Mr. Joaquín García: "there are more requests from companies who want to participate then available space" something that reflects with no doubt, "this Boat Show has positioned itself as a national and international leader in the nautical world".
The greatest success of this event, said the Minister, "is having the participation and involvement of all private sectors." Only then, as mentioned by the highest responsible of the Boat Show Palma: "we can reach and achieve the good figures already achieved the previous year, when we broke previous participation records of both companies and visitors" which, he adds, "we will go further this year".

Palma Superyacht Show Looks Forward to Third Edition

Having made its debut in 2013, the Palma Superyacht Show, in partnership with MYBA, is now a firm fixture on the yachting calendar.  Running concurrently with the 32nd Boat Show Palma, this Mediterranean season opener takes place from 30 April to 4 May 2015.

Jane Thompson, Coordinator of the Palma Superyacht Show, says, “Avoiding comparisons with Cannes or Monaco, the Palma Superyacht Show has established its own clear identity as a brokerage and charter show of excellence, perfectly timed before the summer season.  Designed to coincide with 1 May, a public holiday in most European countries, as well as the UK’s Monday ‘May Day’, we hope visitors will take a long weekend break in hospitable Palma, enjoy the sunshine and see a great selection of top quality yachts.”

The outlook is certainly good for the Show.  Providing a platform for charter and brokerage boats above 24 metres, both sail and motor, the 2015 Palma Superyacht Show is once more growing in size to cater to demand.  In 2014 a total of 34 service- and equipment-related companies occupied shoreside exhibition stands, for the third edition this will rise to 50.  There are also plans to up the number of superyacht berths.

“We are working hard to get more berthing space for the 2015 edition of the Palma Superyacht Show,” says Arne Ploch, Coordinator of the Show’s in-water display and Sales Broker for Camper & Nicholsons.  “There were 55 attending yachts in 2014 and we are going to try and fit in ten more.  With the Palma Superyacht Show now established as one of the most important brokerage and charter events before the summer, demand is high.  We were sold out in 2014 and expect the same again for 2015, but this time much earlier.  With five berth reservations already signed from those who didn’t attend the previous year, we can’t impress on potential exhibitors enough to book as soon as possible – particularly for charter as Spain is now fully open to foreign-flagged yachts and the market is burgeoning.”

Several exhibitors have realised the sense of urgency and already reserved space for 2015.  Shipyard Astilleros de Mallorca and refinishing and chandlery business, Nautipaints, are among the early movers.

Jenny Maul from Astilleros de Mallorca, said, “The previous Palma Superyacht Show was a great success for Astilleros de Mallorca and we had a large stand.  The relaxed and positive atmosphere at provided a great platform for communicating and sharing information with many other companies, while our long-term customers were impressed by the Show’s fresh image and the presence of the best yachts available in the market for sale or charter.  The Show has obvious potential to flourish and establish itself in the coming years as one of the top events in the superyacht industry.  We’re looking forward to the next edition.”

Toni Salom, CEO of Nautipaints, exhibiting for the third successive year, said, “Palma is one of the most dynamic and competitive yachting refit destinations in Europe, and the Boat Show is a great opportunity to meet other companies involved in the nautical industry, so it’s only right that a well-organised Superyacht Show should also be based here.  We’re proud to be part of it.”

Big plans for next year’s boat show

By Francisco Cortez      Majorca Daily Bulletin.      31st May 2014

Palma Boat Show organisers have decided to dredge the port in order to accommodate more boats in next year’s edition of the event.

Palma.—The committee intends to discuss further details with the government and the Port Authorities when the entities meet next July. Other measures to improve the 32nd edition of the fair in 2015 will also be discussed but for now a team of workers has already been put together to see how the dredging plan can go forward. All the ideas and suggestions left by visitors from this year’s event will also be taken on board and discussed at the July meeting. The new plan comes after results showed the financial impact of the event on the local economy surpassed 2013’s results and customer satisfaction reached new heights. Those who were present this year rated the fair with a 2.95 percent out of 4 in terms of general organisation and satisfaction, with 80 percent of the visitors, in their majority British, German and Spanish assuring they would be returning next year.

Palma’s International Boat Show a “global success”

Majorca Daily Bulletin.      6th May 2014

Palma.—A “global success”. That is how organisers of the 31st edition of Palma’s International Boat Show, which ended on Sunday, described the impact of the event. Both in terms of visitors, number of stands and moorings.

Overall, throughout the five days the event lasted, 32,000 visitors visited the trade fair.

The number of stands on display and mooring s available had been increased by 20 percent and 75 percent respectively compared with 2013.

That alongside the overall profile of visitors, amount of business generated and customer satisfaction levels, left Chema Sans, director of the event, understandably proud.

Curtain Down on a Record-Breaking Palma International Boat Show

Press Release from Marina Estrella / Purple Cake factory.    05-05-2014

On Sunday, after five busy sunny days, the curtain fell on the 31st edition of the Palma International Boat Show. Record-breaking in terms of land- and water-based exhibitors, the Show even had a surprise visit from Queen Sofia of Spain.

Marina Estrella has attended every edition of the Show since it started in 1984, Guy Norrish comments, “After hotels, yachting contributes a substantial amount to the Balearic economy and we now have a Boat Show that reflects this. The 2012 hiatus actually did the event a world of good and it came back in 2013 with a new format, more visitors and more serious boat buyers. This trend continued for 2014 as we welcomed a number of clients, old and new, from as far afield as Germany, the UK, Russia and Latin America. Marina Estrella’s prime position at the end of newly renovated Pier 2 worked well and our 12 boat line-up, including examples from Azimut, Cobalt, Minorchino, Atlantis, Hanse, Moody and Varianta, was well-received for its diversity in size and affordability. We expect a number of deals to close over the next two to three weeks.”

Guy continues, “The decision to run the Palma Superyacht Show alongside the mainstream Palma International Boat Show has also proven to be an excellent one. As an exhibitor in the ‘normal’ Show, we are grateful for the superyacht presence as it adds both profile and interest to the event. It also helps foster continued collaboration between brokers of smaller and larger yachts. Owners tend to move up and down the size range in the course of their boating life, for example in the run-up to the Show, Marina Estrella introduced a buyer to Camper & Nicholsons for 39m Maiora Why Worry, so sharing the same ‘stage’ makes perfect sense.”

Official reports state that in the region of 32,000 people visited the Show across the five days. Land-based exhibitors were up 20% on last year and the number of berths up 75%. Director of the Boat Show, Chema Sans, said, “Looking beyond the figures, the important thing is that the visitor profile has been that of interested enthusiasts, of buyers, whereas last year the majority came for a stroll.” This has translated into a greater amount of business, not only yachts, but also in equipment, clothing and accessories.

Furthermore, organisers claim that 90% of exhibitors want to return next year, with many key exhibitors already booking their place. More than half of this 90% have asked for increased exhibition space, particularly in the water. This is something Chema is keen to address, particularly as the Palma Superyacht Show continues to flourish. He added, “In the last 20 years the Balearics have become one of the most important nautical centres in the Mediterranean, so the Boat Show has been growing with that. Now we want to be the biggest brokerage superyacht show in Europe. We are planning to dredge an area to increase draft and next year we will have room for many more bigger boats.”

This year, 55 yachts between 25 and 48 metres long exhibited at the Palma Superyacht Show, up from 42 in 2013, and Arne Ploch, President of joint organisers the Balearic Yacht Brokers Association and broker with Camper & Nicholsons, also has his eyes on expansion.

Arne said, “The Show has gone even better than last year. In fact some of the companies exhibiting have highlighted that it is the best boat show they have attended in the last ten years. Clients came from afar, including the United States, and one of the wealthiest people in the world also paid a visit. The event is destined to become one of the best without losing its special charm. It is not elitist, like Monaco, but is open to everyone. Palma International Boat Show has great potential for growth and could attract in its next edition up to 60 or 70 superyachts, as well as an increase in the number of exhibitors."

The Palma International Boat Show closes a successful edition.

Press release by Fires i Congressos / Dirección General de Comerç.
organisers of Palma Boat Show.         05-05-2014

The Palma International Boat Show closes a successful edition.
The 31st edition of the Palma International Boat Show, closed its doors on Sunday after five days. It has been a great global success, both in number of exhibitors and moorings, with increases of 20 and 75 % respectively compared to last year, as well as in number of visitors, and business volume.

The show has received about 32.000 visitors, more than last year, May the 1st bank holiday and Sunday having been the busiest days.

Event director Chema Sans, said that “At street level the show had more presence than ever, it has been a reference in the city these days, and beyond the figures, what matters is that the enthusiastic and potential buyer turned up, whereas last year the majority came just for a walk.”

According to data collected by the organization, this has resulted in an increase of business volume, not only in yachts but also in equipment, accessories and clothing. The complementary offer was greatly benefitted from direct sales, something that did not happen in a long time.

Furthermore, over 90 % of the exhibitors want to repeat next year, and in fact there are many large companies that have already booked, and more than half are requesting to increase the exhibition space, especially afloat, indicating a very high level of satisfaction.

“In this edition we have confirmed that the show is alive, and next year we look forward to rise the standard” stated Mr. Sans.

Exhibitors have been very pleased with the 31st edition. Most rate it as an alive event, with a greater turnout of visitors interested in buying.

The superyacht area, which has exhibited 55 luxury vessels between 25 and 48 meters long, gives a very positive evaluation. The president of the Balearics Yacht Brokers Association (BYBA), Arne Ploch, said that “the show was even better than last year.” In fact, he said, “Some of the companies that have exhibited in this area have highlighted that it is the best boat show which they have attended in the last ten years”.

In just two editions, the Palma event “has become an excellent showcase for new contacts” hence the brokers’ representative has predicted a greater participation of large yachts in forthcoming editions.

Ploch also highlighted the high turnout of interested visitors and customers who visited the show this year and “who have specially come from away, as far as the United States, for example …”

In this sense, Arne Ploch is convinced that “The Show is destined to become one of the best ones, without losing its friendly and charming identity. A special charm which is its great virtue and differentiates this event. It is not exclusive as Monaco, but it is open to all citizens, and besides has emerged as an important space for sailing superyachts.”

Palma International Boat Show has a great growth potential and in its next edition it could attract up to 60 or 70 superyachts and also an increase in the number of exhibitors.

Both the superyachts area and the nautical sector had their restoration spaces as the main animation highlight. In the superyacht area, the renowned chef Marc Fosch made a high end proposal, whereas the exhibitors area repeated the Tapa-Mar seafood products show organized by PIMEM Restoration.

Palma International Boat Show 2014

By Karen Hockney     www.karenhockneymedia.com     14th April 2014

Following the huge success of last year’s show, the Palma International Boat Show kicks off on Wednesday April 30th at the Port of Palma de Mallorca in the Balearic Islands. Incorporating the Palma Superyacht Show, the event area has been considerably increased since last year thanks to the inclusion of an additional pier, increasing the number of berths available for 8m to 55m yachts from 200 to 260.

The Superyacht section will comprise around 65 vessels of a minimum length of 24m and will feature a 50/50 ratio of sail to power. The open and covered exhibition areas have also increased by 25% and event highlights for 2014 include regattas, a Tapas Fair, Superyacht Conference and networking events.

The newly completed Moll Vell (Old Port) redevelopment project, comprising offices, boutiques, restaurants, bar and terrace, will also play host to many more visitors. With over 37,000 visitors last year, including Crown Prince Felipe of the Spanish royal family, organisers are expecting even higher numbers this year.

Held in association with a new partnership with MYBA, exhibitors include the Italian manufacturer Solaris Yachts. Confirmed highlights feature the 43.2m sailing yacht Mystere and the 38.9m Ganesha 1 luxury yacht.

Expansion for Palma International Boat Show 2014

Press Release from Marina Estrella / Purple Cake factory.   26-03-2014

Following a record-breaking 2013, organisers of the 31st edition of the Palma International Boat Show have expanded exhibition space both on land and in water to create “probably the most successful boat show in the last five years”.  The Show runs from 30 April to 4 May.

Guy Norrish from long-term exhibitor Marina Estrella, comments, “Following a 2012 hiatus, the comeback 2013 Palma International Boat Show was a real hit.  The new format of fewer days, better opening times, more boats on the water and reasonable ticket prices suited both exhibitors and visitors.  Marina Estrella closed the Show with confirmed sales of over two million euros, including the first of the innovative Azimut 55S to reach the Balearics, and more followed, so we are looking forward to a good show in 2014.”

Indeed, due to the Boat Show’s expansion, Marina Estrella will be relocated for the first time since the very first edition it attended in 1984, some 30 years ago.  The Palma Superyacht Show, which now runs alongside the mainstream event, is growing from 47 yachts over 24 metres in 2013 to 65 or more for 2014, and will displace Marina Estrella in the process.

“Fortunately the organisers have rewarded our loyalty,” continues Guy, “and Marina Estrella will now have a prime position at the end of the newly renovated Pier 2.  For the first time Pier 2 will be connected to Pier 3 by a swing bridge which will not only allow boats to exit for sea trials but also enable visitors to walk around the Show in a continuous flow - from superyachts to 'normal', and vice versa.  We are putting no fewer than 12 boats into our line-up for 2014, from the Cobalt 262 through to the recession-busting Varianta 37 up to the Azimut Magellano 76, to reflect both our wide range and commitment to the Show.”

This year’s Palma International Boat Show will benefit from the recent completion of Moll Vell Marina’s 6.5 million euro makeover which releases 25% more on-land exhibition space previously taken over by construction work.  Meanwhile the new pier configuration will increase the number of berths overall from 110 in 2013 to 200 in 2014.  Once again superyachts, for sale or for charter, will have a major presence, with vessels up to 70 metres in length on display.  Regattas, tapas and other cultural events will also enhance the Show.

Guy finishes, “Taken in the context of a stream of good news for Balearic boaters this year including a relaxation of onerous yachting licences for Spanish owners, the removal of the dreaded Matriculation Tax on larger charter boats, an area Marina Estrella has identified for growth, and the tangible support of Balearics’ President José Ramón Bauzá for the nautical sector, Palma is well on its way to reinforcing its deserved reputation as the centre of boating for the Mediterranean.”

www.Events-In-Mallorca.com

Sr. Sans confirmed that plans are progressing well for Palma Boat Show 2014. The Boat Show area will be considerably increased from 2013 by the inclusion of an additional pier which will increase the number of berths available from some 200 (for Palma Boat show 2013) to approx 260. This will accommodate boats in the water from 8 mtrs to 55 mtrs. The Superyacht section (Palma Superyacht Show ) is estimated to comprise some 65 vessels. Of the remaining berths roughly 80% are already committed. Land based exhibition areas - both covered and open - will be some 25% greater than for 2013. Many additional service companies will be in attendance and a range of complemenatry events will be running alongside the Boat Show including Regattas, Tapas Fair, Superyacht Conference and Networking Events.

Sr Sans also confirmed that the major Moll Vell (Old Port) redevelopment project - comprising offices, boutiques, restaurants, bars and a terrace overlooking the Boat Show area - will be operational shortly - well before the Boat Show opens.

The outlook is bright for Palma Boat Show 2014.
